Clinton campaign recruits Missouri governor's communications director

Channing Ansley Grate is joining the Clinton campaign as deputy chief of staff after four years as communications director for Missouri Governor Jay Nixon.

BROOKLYN, NY: Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s campaign has brought on a top aide to Missouri’s governor as it starts the home stretch to November’s presidential election.

Channing Ansley Grate, previously communications director for Missouri Governor Jay Nixon, is joining the Clinton campaign as deputy chief of staff, Nixon’s office said Tuesday.

Grate has served as a member of Nixon’s staff since January 2013. Previously, she was director of communications and research for Nixon’s successful reelection campaign in 2012. Grate was communications head for Nixon when Michael Brown was shot by police in Ferguson, Missouri, in August 2014.

Grate also worked in policy and research positions for two other campaigns in Missouri. Prior, she was a research associate at Emily’s List, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Grate will be replaced by Nixon’s press secretary, Scott Holste, who has worked with Nixon since 1994.
