PRWeek UK 30 Under 30 2016: Kara Shadbolt, Shoosmiths

Having won impressive journalism internships at The Sunday Times and the FT - where she interviewed the PM and royals among others - Shadbolt (28) entered PR as a Freuds intern.

She now heads comms at law firm Shoosmiths, which cited her flair for building relationships as the reason for a tripling of coverage for its corporate and real estate deal announcements in two years.

The biggest misconception about PR is... that it is all about who you know. That can in some cases get you a foot in the door, but they are on their own after that – PR involves a lot of hard graft.

My biggest inspiration is… I admire many people, mainly those who aren’t afraid to be themselves and ‘make it’ on their own merits. However, my biggest inspiration is my family. They taught me to have a work ethic, to be determined and to do what I love.

In five years’ time I want to be...
the most important thing is to be happy. Being a ‘head of’ or ‘director of’ a large organisation would appeal to me. Political PR has always been of interest, too.

Nominator says: "In the past two years, Kara has risen to the challenge of being the go-to PR person for journalists and lawyers at Shoosmiths."
