PRWeek UK 30 Under 30 2016: Tom Rouse, Hotwire

A PR professional of many talents, Rouse (27) is leading Hotwire's efforts to offer new services beyond traditional PR and has represented the BBC, Microsoft and Citibank.

At just 19, he oversaw media strategy for the Yes to AV referendum across the whole of the West Midlands and Birmingham, and before leaving university established popular political blog The Grapevine.

The best thing about my job is… the variety of work and clients – one day I’m planning out a new web series, the next thinking about how a 200-year-old company positions itself to compete in a digital marketplace.

The biggest misconception about PR is... that it’s all about talking to journalists and influencers. They’re a channel for us to reach the public, but not the only one.

I couldn’t live without…
food – big lunches and mid-afternoon treats are a must.

My biggest inspiration is…
 my comic book collection.

In five years’ time I want to be...
running creative campaigns on a global scale and proving PR is just as competent as advertising at delivering memorable work that delivers tangible benefits for our clients.

Nominator says: "Tom epitomises what a modern PR professional should be capable of."
