PRWeek UK 30 Under 30 2016: Ben Lyons, Intern Aware

Lyons (26) was once named a 'Global Shaper' by the World Economic Forum.

In his role as co-director, Intern Aware he has helped shift opinion in favour of internships, securing coverage in media including Today, Newsnight and national papers. Results have been concrete, persuading the Government to ‘name and shame’ firms that don’t pay interns.

The best thing about my job is… at Intern Aware, I’ve been able to focus on effecting change on an issue I really care about. At FleishmanHillard Fishburn, I’ve loved advising clients on business-critical challenges, working with smart, nice people.

The biggest misconception about PR is... that it’s about spinning away mistakes. It should be about advising organisations to make the right decisions in the first place. Businesses that know their reputations matter and act responsibly are more likely to create long-term value, as well as delivering more for society.

I couldn’t live without… I am writing this on my mobile...

My biggest inspiration is… David Bowie. And if he hadn’t transformed pop music forever, I reckon he could have made a decent PR consultant.

Nominator says: "Ben has been highly impactful in a short period of time."
