Starring the firm's global product ambassadors, Henry Cavill and Scarlett Johansson, the advert was commissioned by Havas Worldwide and was shot in Shanghai and New Zealand. The actors are seen using the P9’s dual-camera, one of the flagship features of the device, developed in partnership with Leica Camera.

The advert will be broadcast during a four-week media campaign across terrestrial channels, multichannel, video-on-demand, digital display and in cinemas starting 27 May. A supporting print campaign, shot by fashion photographer Mario Testino and starring the two actors, will run across premium fashion and lifestyle press.

Further unspecified marketing activity is also planned for "high-profile summer events".

Rhys Saunders, Huawei UK sales and marketing director, said that the UK was a key strategic market for Huawei.

"Our first TV campaign and biggest ATL investment demonstrates our commitment to the UK market, and our desire to appeal to a new cosmopolitan audience who we hope will be excited by the creative potential of our most premium smartphone range yet," he said.

The premiere of the TV commercial follows on from a star-studded global launch event for the Huawei P9 smartphone, which took place at London’s Battersea Evolution on 6 April and was attended by Cavill.

In January, the business said it was aiming to become the world's second biggest smartphone maker, overtaking Apple, within two years.
