Fraser, who looks after corporate and financial comms, consumer PR and crisis management, has been in his current post for nearly five years, after taking up the role in 2011.

Before this, Fraser was director of corporate comms at Sky for more than four years and he has also worked as head of corporate media relations or the company.

PRWeek understands that Fraser regarded the appointment of Hicks as the start of a new chapter in the company’s approach to comms and a natural moment to consider the next stage in his own career.

He told PRWeek: "Sky is a brilliant business that’s grown from a start-up to become Europe’s leading entertainment company. I’ve loved being part of that story but, after 16 years, it’s the right time for something new. Communications and corporate affairs are rightly taking their seat at the top table of business and I’m looking forward to exploring the opportunities that presents."
