Anthony Nolan comms chief promoted

UK blood cancer charity Anthony Nolan has appointed Richard Davidson as director of the newly formed engagement division. Previously director of comms and marketing, Davidson takes on the new role as fundraising director Catherine Miles prepares to join Breast Cancer Now on 6 June. Davidson has worked for Anthony Nolan since 2010, and previously worked at agency Health Mandate - now part of MHP - and at Cancer Research UK.

Westbourne hires two

Westbourne Communications has appointed Matthew Sinclair, former chief executive of campaign group The TaxPayers' Alliance, as head of economics, to provide clients with economic analysis to help shape debates and improve perceptions. Since leaving the alliance in 2013 he has worked for research firm Europe Economics. The firm has also taken on Anouchka Burton as an associate partner, joining from Four Communications.

Former BBC producer sets up agency

A former BBC journalist who produced and edited Watchdog has set up his own PR consultancy. Calder PR, founded by Keir Mackenzie, has secured law firm Setfords Solicitors as its first client. Mackenzie has worked in a number of production and editorial roles since joining the BBC in 2002, prior to which he worked for ITV, Channel 4 and the Kent Messenger.

Threepipe to launch Obi

Threepipe has been appointed by smartphone maker Obi Worldphone to manage its UK launch activity. The campaign is designed to demonstrate how Obi phones deliver better value than more expensive known brands through influencer marketing, media relations, community management and social advertising, and the phones will be available exclusively through Amazon from this month.

W wins Y.CO yacht work

W has been appointed to handle brand and business PR to yacht charter and sales firm Y.CO, positioning the company as a challenger brand in the global superyacht industry. The agency already represents Plymouth-based superyacht manufacturer Princess Yachts, and publisher Boat International.

FSC wins Galvanina

Fleet Street Communications has been appointed by premium, organic Italian soft drink brand Galvanina as its retained consumer PR agency, to run a consumer PR programme to build and maintain awareness of the brand, its heritage and premium credentials, using traditional consumer PR and social media channels, an FSC release said.
