inVentiv Health Public Relations Group: PRWeek Global Agency Business Report 2016

"Advertising, PR, and medical comms are increasingly coming together to pitch business," Lisa Stockman, inVentiv Health president of comms, says.

Principal: Lisa Stockman, president, comms
Subsidiaries: Four, including Chandler Chicco Agency
Offices: Global: 11; U.S.: 7
Revenue: Global: $75 million to $100 million; U.S.: $50 million to $75 million

It was a very busy year for inVentiv Health PR Group, which includes Allidura Consumer, Chandler Chicco Agency, Biosector 2, and Chamberlain Healthcare Public Relations. Haas & Health Partner in Germany is now operating as inVentiv Health PR Group.

Last year the group shifted to one P&L model. It also signed 43 new clients and was awarded 91 new assignments from existing clients. Lisa Stockman, inVentiv Health president of comms, reports double-digit growth both in the U.S. and globally in 2015.

Though unable to discuss specifics, she says all top-20 pharma companies are clients and 85% of client engagements are considered AOR relationships. Clients include Amgen, Novartis, Merck, Novo Nordisk, Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola, and Nestlé.

"A few small accounts" — estimated at about 2% of revenue — were lost globally. "Comms continues to be more data-driven," Stockman says. "We must have the analytical capability to understand who and where our audiences are, communicate in a very targeted way, measure effectiveness, and then optimize the entire stream."

The PR group has access to a lot of proprietary data and insights from inVentiv Health, which includes a clinical division, patient outcomes group, medical education group, and pharma and medical product sales team. Stockman notes this allows for targeted outreach in geographic hotspots for pharma clients and nuanced messages based on patient data.

"Advertising, PR, and medical comms are increasingly coming together to pitch business," Stockman explains. "In five years that’s the way all pharma companies — and probably all companies — will procure marcomms services.

"They’re not going to be able to afford the triplication and fragmentation. The solution is to integrate from day one. We have a 15-person medical comms office in Shanghai, and clients in Asia don’t even think about separation [of marcomms services]."

Headcount increase
Worldwide full-time staff is up from 344 last year to 395; full-time U.S. employees jumped from 231 to 276. New hires include Lisa Waters, who joined from Edelman as MD of Chandler Chicco Agency in Los Angeles, and Julie Adrian, who was promoted to U.S. MD of the same firm. MD of Biosector 2 in London, Joanne Wunder, was named MD of inVentiv Health PR Group, EU. Jeanine O’Kane, formerly MD of Biosector 2 U.S., was promoted to the newly created role of U.S. MD of inVentiv Health.

Parent company inVentiv Health Group Holdings filed for an IPO worth up to $100 million in April 2016.
