Matarazzo joins Edelman from the Brazilian creative distribution network, Flag, where he was partner and global creative leader.

Previously, Matarazzo was the founder of the Latin American creative digital agency Gringo, which he grew to a team of more than 100 people.

Gringo joined WPP in 2011 and became the new Latin American arm of Possible Worldwide.

Matarazzo has also worked for global agencies, including Sid Lee, SapientNitro and Blast Radius and has won six Cannes Lions.

In his new role, Matarazzo will be based in Edelman’s Amsterdam office and he will work with teams around the network.

Matarazzo said: "This is a tremendous opportunity to be part of an exciting industry evolution. Clients need us to go beyond the conventional, break boundaries and engage audiences in fresh and exciting ways. Edelman’s communications marketing ethos speaks to this, and I look forward to working with the agency’s talented teams and injecting my creative expertise into campaigns."

Edelman said this was "the latest in a number of strategic senior creative hires" made in the past two years in Europe. These hires have included Bo Hellberg, previously at DDB, Tribal and Ogilvy; Craig Mandell from Mr President; and The Hub’s Rae Stones.
