PALO ALTO, CA: Mike Buckley is departing his role as Facebook’s VP of global business communications, with Caryn Marooney taking over his responsibilities at the social network.

Marooney will manage Facebook’s comms team as VP of communications, said Vanessa Chan, who oversees the company’s corporate communications, via email. Marooney, who previously served as VP of technology communications at Facebook, will continue to report to Elliot Schrage, VP of communications and public policy, and retain her current responsibilities.

Marooney was not immediately available for comment.

"Instead of having two leads handling product and business communications, [Marooney] will manage both sides," Chan said, that Buckley has left Facebook.

Buckley is departing the company to focus on New Frontier Foods, a company he cofounded in 2012, according to Re/code. He has worked at Facebook since March 2013, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Marooney joined Facebook in 2011 after serving as CEO of The OutCast Agency, which she cofounded. While at OutCast, she managed the agency’s Facebook account.

Other recent changes to Facebook’s comms team include the recent hire of Nestlé USA PR brand affairs manager Sona Iliffe-Moon as technology communications manager, a newly created role. PayPal VP Christina Smedley also joined Facebook late last year to run communications for Facebook Messenger.
