FSB hires BBC political journalist, Hanover launches award to mark 10th anniversary of founder's death, Thirteen Communications and Cubitt Consulting pick up comms briefs, ALMR and more.

FSB hires BBC journalist

The Federation of Small Businesses has hired former BBC political journalist Louise Stewart to head its media and comms operation. Stewart has spent the past five years as political editor for BBC South East and before this was political correspondent for BBC Scotland and for BBC national network news. The FSB recently promoted Craig Beaumont to head of external affairs UK, reporting to chief operating officer Julie Lilley, after Liesl Smith left the FSB in November.

Hanover award in founder's memory

Hanover has launched the Mackay Award in memory of the agency's founding partner Gregor Mackay, who died 10 years ago. The award will be presented annually to an individual in the early stages of their communications career, offering them a placement on an international election campaign. The first Mackay Scholar will visit the US to study the presidential election from inside the Republican campaign.

ALMR appoints comms director

The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers, the trade body representing UK hospitality operators, has appointed Tony Sophoclides as director of comms. Sophoclides joins from the Altitude Consultancy, which he co-founded in 2007. He was previously a director at both Jefferson Communications and Westminster Strategy.

Cardew's NY tie-up

New York IR firm Taylor Rafferty will join forces with the financial and corporate comms adviser, Cardew Group in London, to offer clients "seamless capital markets advice and service from London and New York", Cardew said in a press release yesterday.

Maitland appointed by TUI

Maitland has been appointed corporate and financial comms adviser to FTSE-100 listed TUI Group, the world’s leading tourism company. The brief began in January.

Thirteen wins UK brief for career site

Thirteen Communications has been selected as the PR and digital agency for Dice (formerly The IT Job Board), the online technology career site. The agency won the work after delivering a digital project to support the launch of Dice's first UK outdoor advertising campaign. The account will be led by senior account director Heidi Jutton.

WPP sales rise

WPP saw like-for-like revenue and net sales rise by "well over three per cent" in February, the company announced this morning in a 'flash report' to the market. hires Golley Slater PR

Golley Slater PR has been appointed to handle consumer and corporate comms for, a Parisian business that helps hotels cash in on rooms booked during daytime hours. The Golley Slater team, headed by MD Eileen Stretton, has been tasked with raising the profile of the business, awareness of the concept of out-of-hours room booking, and creating a positive brand comms campaign.

Virtualstock appoints Cubitt Consulting for corporate brief 

Virtualstock, the leading supply chain technology provider for retail businesses and the public sector, has appointed Cubitt Consulting as its corporate comms adviser. Virtualstock's clients include Tesco, Maplin and Office Depot.

Razor brand appoints Golin

Golin has been appointed by razor technology business, Dorco, to handle the brand’s UK launch. Dorco’s mission for 2016 is to develop a PR strategy to raise brand awareness in the UK of its online store.
