HP hires FleishmanHillard's Vanessa Yanez to lead corporate communications

She is departing the Omnicom Group agency after five years.

PALO ALTO, CA: Vanessa Yanez will join HP next Monday as head of corporate communications.

After nearly five years at FleishmanHillard, she is leaving her role as SVP and senior partner, working with clients including Visa, Avaya, Fitbit, and HP.

In the newly created global role, Yanez will report directly to chief communications officer Karen Kahn, based in the company’s Palo Alto, California, headquarters. Leading a team of 12, she will manage existing agency relationships with FleishmanHillard and Porter Novelli.

"Vanessa came in with a group from FleishmanHillard in support of our corporate business and I loved her from moment I met her," Kahn said, praising Yanez’s "energy and passion" and experience working at HP. "She is an absolutely ideal fit as I work to build a team to lead our corporate communications."

Yanez’s key responsibilities include strategic media, financial, and crisis communications for global clients. She will also oversee innovation and thought leadership programs, along with CSR, sustainability, and culture communications.

"HP is a company reinventing itself, with the heart of a startup and the muscle of a Fortune 100," Yanez said. "It's a global platform for maximum communications impact and the opportunity is huge. I'm humbled and thrilled to join."

Prior to a five-year run at Fleishman, Yanez led the Dell account at Axicom and worked at companies including HP and Sun Microsystems. She also had a stint at Ketchum.

Last fall, Hewlett-Packard split into two companies: Hewlett-Packard Enterprise and HP Inc., with the former selling services, storage, and networking equipment and the latter focused on PCs and printers.
