Boy George hires PR help

Boy George and his manager Paul Kemsley, have hired Edge Publicity to manage all of his PR activity after debuting on the fifth season of The Voice. Shoshanna Stone will act as his publicist and manage all press and TV-related appearances. The 80s star and mentor on BBC TV's The Voice joins a roster of clients including John Legend, Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, Shakira and Usher.

'Davos of cities' appoints marketer as CEO

The former marketing director of the London Evening Standard, Visit London and WHSmith Online has been appointed chief executive of the Global Cities Business Alliance. Lesley Saville leads a membership organisation that London Mayor Boris Johnson has said he hopes will "be the Davos of cities", and brings business people and political leaders together to discuss how to make cities work better.

PAGB appoints Pegasus for PR

The Proprietary Association of Great Britain has retained Pegasus to provide media relations and issues management, following a competitive pitch. PAGB is the UK trade association representing manufacturers of branded over-the-counter medicines, self-care medical devices and food supplements. Pegasus will work on the former two categories, while media relations support for food supplement issues will continue to be managed by Nexus Healthcare Communications.

Liberty appointed to internet of things event

CloserStill Media has selected Liberty Communications to launch the Smart IoT London event in April. Liberty says the event is the largest internet of things (IoT) gathering in the world. Liberty's global remit will be to drive awareness of the event among tech firms, service providers and the public sector.

Hills Balfour wins cruise account

Trade body Cruise Lines International Association UK & Ireland has appointed Hills Balfour to co-ordinate its consumer public relations, following a five-way invitation-only pitch process.

Firebird shows Capability after win

Oxfordshire's Firebird PR has won a competitive five-way pitch to work for 2016's Capability Brown Festival, a year-long set of events to celebrate the 300th anniversary of the birth of the prolific, renowned gardener who is recognised as having changed the face of England.

Beattie hires digital comms director

Beattie has hired Jessica McAndrew from the BIG Partnership as digital comms director. She will work with managing director Laurna Woods and digital marketing director David Reid to grow the agency’s digital comms offering. McAndrew previously worked with Frame Digital, Peach Digital and Groundzero.

Howz appoints Toast

Toast PR has been appointed by health tech firm Intelesant to launch Howz, a new app aimed at elderly people, which monitors a user's daily activity and notifies carers and family of routines and anomalies.
