In August, Esra Erkal-Paler was promoted to the position of head of global external comms. Erkal-Paler had joined the firm in 2011 from the UK's Advertising Standards Authority, in the role of head of global media relations.

In her new role, she oversees global media strategy and financial comms, corporate brand, digital, creative and content, corporate reporting, strategic business development comms and external comms in Sweden, where the firm is listed alongside its London listing.

Neil Burrows has since joined the firm in December in Erkal-Paler's former role as head of global media relations, following a stint as head of global media and crisis comms at oil and gas firm BG Group, which is currently in the news over its potential merger with Shell.

In addition, Ali Perkins has joined AstraZeneca as head of comms for global medicines development and innovative medicine and early development.

Perkins had previously spent seven years at Microsoft as head of UK PR – during which time she was profiled by PRWeek – and more recently was the tech firm's director of privacy and social business strategy.

Both Erkal-Paler and Perkins report to interim vice-president of corporate affairs Rich Buckley, who is acting up from his role as vice-president, North America corporate affairs.
