Facebook hires Sona Iliffe-Moon from Nestlé to manage technology comms

She will step into the newly created role of technology communications manager later this year.

PALO ALTO, CA: Facebook has hired Nestlé USA’s PR brand affairs manager Sona Iliffe-Moon as technology communications manager, a newly created role at the social network.

She will step into the position later this year, a source familiar with the matter told PRWeek. Iliffe-Moon will report to Jessie Baker, who also holds the title of technology communications manager.

Iliffe-Moon declined to comment.

PayPal VP Christina Smedley will also join Facebook later this year to run communications for Facebook Messenger.

Iliffe-Moon has worked in her current role as PR brand affairs manager for Nestlé USA’s beverage division since January. Joanne Crawford-Duner previously led PR for Nestlé’s beverage sector, but left the company to retire.

It was not immediately clear if Iliffe-Moon is being replaced at Nestlé.

Also departing Nestlé is Rudolf Ramsauer, SVP and corporate communications director. He was replaced last week by Eugenio Simioni. Ramsauer is retiring, but will stay on board until the end of the year to aid with the transition.

Before Nestlé, Iliffe-Moon worked at Toyota for eight years, most recently as PR manager for Toyota brand and marketing communications.

Early in her career, Iliffe-Moon worked at Hill & Knowlton, Weber Shandwick, and the State Department’s Bureau of Arms Control.
