Visit California picks ICUC for global social media management

The state tourism agency released an RFP for the account, which is worth $300,000, in May.

SACRAMENTO, CA: Visit California has named ICUC as its global social media partner following a competitive bid for a new contract.

A spokesperson for the state travel and tourism agency said it has made its choice, but was unable to provide additional details while the two sides finalize the contract. ICUC is based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and its services include social media management for both brands and agencies.

Visit California released an RFP for the account in May, seeking a global social media contractor for a pact worth $300,000 over the course of a year. It listed services such as multi-social channel expertise and support in 11 countries where it wants consumers to "learn and understand the California brand." Countries listed in the RFP were the US, Canada, the UK, China, Australia, Mexico, Brazil, Germany, Japan, France, and South Korea.

The RFP also listed the contract’s expected start and end dates as September 2015 and June 30, 2016, respectively. It was not immediately clear how the timetable would be updated with a new start date.

In July, Visit California also released an RFP for marcomms representation in Canada for one year – the account is worth $900,000 – on the heels of retaining Development Counsellors International for a domestic PR contract worth $300,000.

A representative from ICUC could not be immediately reached for comment.
