Stronach, who joins on 4 January, succeeds Suzy Giles, who left UEA in September after 15 years of service.
From 2011 to 2015, Stronach worked as an external comms consultant, mainly dealing with the NHS, through his own company Andrew Stronach Communications, before taking up his current NHS role at the start of this year.
Prior to 2011, Stronach served for almost 10 years as head of comms for Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
A journalist by training, Stronach worked for the Eastern Daily Press and was then deputy news editor for the Norwich Evening News, before moving into a media relations role at Aviva and then becoming comms manager at Virgin Money.
Stronach said: "I’m delighted to be joining a great team at the University of East Anglia in the New Year. UEA has a well-deserved reputation not only for its excellent student satisfaction but also for research, with the university placed 10th in the UK for the quality of its research output."
