Red Bull, Krispy Kreme, Costa, Marriott: 'brandjacking' in force as Facebook goes down

Brands were quick to exploit the fact that Facebook went down on Monday, with Red Bull, Costa Coffee and Krispy Kreme and Marriott International among those 'brandjacking' on Twitter.

The Facebook website went down for a period of time on Monday evening, but is now back online.

It's the second time the website has been out of operaton for a period of time in the past four days; it was also down for a short period on Thursday. News of the latest apparent technical problem has become a major topic of conversation on Twitter, with #facebookdown currently trending with 217,000 tweets at present.

Facebook has yet to publish a statement on the issue on the newsroom of its website. The social media giant has also not mentioned the situation on its official Twitter page.
