Alan Philips had a big job as CMO at Morgans Hotel Group. Not only did he oversee all aspects of branding and marketing for its Delano, Mondrian, Hudson, and Originals brand hotels, including 13 locations across the US and one in Istanbul, Turkey, he was also responsible for the marketing of food and beverage, as well as managing 15 agencies globally. One of his initiatives included BackofHouse.com, a Morgans digital culture blog with thousands of monthly unique visitors.
He’ll be putting all this experience to good use as SVP, brand experience at WeWork, the breakout rental provider of shared office space to small companies and technology startups just valued at $10 billion. But Phillips still has a hand in hospitality marketing and consulting. In 2010, he opened over a dozen pop-up restaurants in New York with his company Guerrilla Culinary Brigade, and he is writing a second book about the industry. His first, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Starting a Food Truck Business, was published in 2012.
