The company invited agencies to pitch for the work back in July, and met with eight agencies.

It is the first time Virgin Wines has hired PR support since parent company Virgin brought in Consolidated Communications to launch the business in 2000. The contract will run for a year, initially.

Focus PR's first task will be announcing Virgin Wines' latest financial results. The agency will also work to promote the company's gifts offering in the run up to Christmas.

Jessica Anderson, PR and events manager at Virgin Wines, said: "Throughout the pitch process we were incredibly impressed with the team at Focus, and are very confident in their ability to get our brand across in the right manner. We felt they really got what Virgin Wines is about and that was key priority for us."
