NEW YORK: AECOM VP Ed Mayer will join Voya Financial as VP and chief of staff for corporate communications next week.
Mayer will step into the newly created role on Monday and report to Voya SVP and CCO Paul Gennaro. He will oversee seven people in the role.
The company created the position as part of an organizational shift in Voya’s corporate communications, explained Gennaro.
"We are building out our team to better align with Voya’s growth opportunities," he said. "[Mayer] will work with me on the advancement of our overall corporate communications strategy, the measurement of our progress, and the development of our people."
Mayer will also lead a team responsible for content creation and optimization, HR communications, manager communications, and business literacy communications. He will provide support for Voya’s operations and IT organizations, as well.
"[Mayer’s] expertise and track record of success will be a great addition to the strong team that we have in place," said Gennaro.
Since 2006, Mayer has worked in various roles at AECOM. He has worked in his most recent position, VP of corporate communications, since January. Mayer is departing AECOM on Friday.
A number of executives have exited AECOM’s communications team this year, with three joining Voya. Gennaro left his role as AECOM’s SVP of corporate communications and CCO in January to join the financial institution. Former Disney-ABC Television Group VP Heather Rim succeeded him at AECOM in June.
Meanwhile, AECOM financial and business communications coordinator Stefanie Urso joined Voya as communications coordinator in February. Tom Lloyd, a senior writer at AECOM, will join the company on September 28 as a communications senior manager.
Paul Dickard, AECOM VP of corporate and external communications, also left the company to join Hertz Equipment Rental, a division of Hertz Global Holdings, as VP of communications in early September.
Before AECOM, Mayer served as internal communications manager for Johns Manville, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway. Earlier in his career, he was associate editor for corporate communications at Ingersoll Rand, according to his LinkedIn profile.
