Kai Fang named Ogilvy Washington executive creative director

He previously worked as executive creative director and national discipline lead at Pappas_DMI.

WASHINGTON: Ogilvy Washington has hired former Pappas_DMI executive creative director and national discipline lead Kai Fang as executive creative director.

Fang’s role includes collaborating with the firm’s digital strategy and production staffers and leading the creative team. He is reporting to Robert Mathias, Ogilvy PR’s regional CEO for North America.

The role is a new one at Ogilvy Washington, leading all of its recently merged creative operations as a single unit, said Mathias

Prior to Pappas_DMI, Fang worked at firms including Big River Advertising, GMMB, Mullen, BBDO, Arnold Worldwide, and Adworks.

Mathias said Fang’s role is "a very augmented and bolstered" one from what the firm had previously.

"As head of Ogilvy Washington, I wanted to make sure we were clearly establishing creativity at the center of what we were doing," he said. "I think too many people get lost at creativity being a visual thing and it’s not; it’s much deeper and much more organic than that."

Mathias noted that clients are also more often asking for creative solutions.

A Pappas_DMI representative was not immediately available for comment on who would replace Fang.

Ogilvy also recently promoted SVP of digital strategy Kathy Baird Westfall to EVP of strategy and former VP and associate creative director Russell Hayer to SVP and creative director.
