Last month Prime Minister David Cameron said he wanted to move forward with plans to force large firms to disclose data on the gender pay gap to their staff – a law on this was created during the previous government but not implemented. A government consultation on the plan closes on 6 September.
An online survey from the PRCA, Women in PR and PRWeek has now opened to consider the potential implications of this plan for the PR industry.
The survey includes questions such as whether PRCA members believe the publication of such information will help close the gender pay gap; and whether the Government's proposed 250-employee threshold for disclosure will have a beneficial effect, or should be amended.
"Three industry-wide surveys published this year have all come up with the same finding – that there is a significant gender pay gap within the UK PR industry. The largest pay gap is at senior levels, so at Women in PR, we want to ensure that the next generation of future, female talent is more fairly paid," said Mary Whenman, president of Women in PR.
Francis Ingham, director general of the PRCA, said: "The issue of the gender pay gap is one of huge importance for employers and employees alike, and it is time to give serious thought to the implications of any new legislation on the PR industry.
"We urge everyone at every level of communications to take part in this survey."
