The contract includes national and regional PR support for Mecca's chain of 90 clubs across the UK, and its online and mobile outlets.
The appointment was awarded without a pitch following a six-month project Havas completed for Mecca earlier this year, supporting the brand’s nationwide Star Search talent competition, the final of which was headlined by X Factor and reality TV star Stacey Solomon.
The eight-person Havas team on the account is led by board director Nigel Hughes. The agency team is reporting to head of PR for Mecca, Lesly Clifford.
He said: "The business is making a significant investment in PR support as part of wider campaign to attract new members with popular games, fun and entertainment in clubs and online. It’s a really exciting contract for Havas to win."
Mecca has previously worked with Clarion Communications.
Havas UK has offices in London, Edinburgh and Manchester, and is part of a broader global marcoms group, Havas Worldwide, which has in recent months launched a new financial PR agency, won Air France-KLM as a client in Asia and made several acquisitions.
