Creston CEO Barrie Brien's remuneration package reaches £696,045

Creston chief executive Barrie Brien saw his remuneration package reach £696,045 in the 12 months to 31 March 2015, his first year as CEO.

That included a salary of £350,000, annual bonus of £161,714 and long-term incentive payment of £138,736, plus other payments including pension (£27,095), dividend bonus (£11,737) and benefits (£6,763), the company's annual report shows.

The financial year saw growing profits and revenue at Creston, which owns PR agencies Nelson Bostock Unlimited, Fever Unlimited and Red Door Unlimited among other marketing services businesses.

The company reported a two per cent rise in pre-tax profit to £9.9m on revenue up three per cent to £76.9m in the 12 months to 31 March. That year also saw a company-wide rebranding using the Unlimited suffix.

Total remuneration for chief financial officer Kathryn Herrick in the year was £211,188, which included an annual bonus of £38,118. Herrick joined Creston in July 2014.

Annual bonuses for the CEO and CFO are based 75 per cent on reaching targets for profit before interest and tax (PBIT) and 25 per cent on achieving client satisfaction targets.

Writing in the Directors’ Remuneration Report in Creston’s Annual Report and Accounts 2015, remuneration committee chair Kate Burns said: "As a result of the good performance against the group’s headline PBIT and client satisfaction survey targets, executive directors received an annual bonus payout of 46 per cent of the maximum potential.

"As a result, Mr B C Brien received an annual bonus of 46 per cent of salary and Mrs K L Herrick received 23 per cent of her pro-rated salary."

Before being appointed CEO on 1 April 2014, Brien was chief operating and financial officer at the company.
