PRCA encourages disabled people to join PR industry

The PRCA has signed up as a partner to the Government's Disability Confident campaign in an attempt to encourage more disabled people to join the PR industry.

The PRCA has become one of the 376 UK employers that support the Disability Confident campaign – other signatories include Barclays, BT, Marks & Spencer and Sainsbury’s.

The scheme aims to encourage employers to remove barriers, increase understanding and ensure that disabled people have the opportunity to fulfil their potential at work.

In the past year the number of disabled people in employment has experienced a growth equivalent to around 650 people every day, Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) figures show.

The PRCA says it will focus on disability equality through content, events and close work with the DWP.

Francis Ingham, director general of the PRCA, said: "We are proud to be joining the Disability Confident campaign, which has made impressive inroads into helping disabled people into the workplace."

Earlier in the year, the CIPR and the minister for disabled people, Mark Harper, launched a booklet to help comms professionals engage with disabled and diverse audiences.
