Patricia Condon: 40 Under 40 2015

Head of public relations and events, Virgin America
39

Patricia Condon’s stock is sky high at Virgin America where she leads events and PR, from concept to execution, for one of the splashiest airlines. When the company enters a new market, it kicks off multiple media events from takeoff to in-flight media to the red-carpet rollout that evening, and it all must be seamless for the high-profile airline.

Condon executes these and other events with an unmatched flair and professionalism, effortlessly managing across company departments from marketing communications to airline operations teams, external units, partners, and, of course, media. She pulled off multiple new-market launches in a two-month period in 2013, including Newark, Austin, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas.

Her proficiency owes in part to her history with the brand. As an account director at Ogilvy Public Relations in 2007, Condon aided the launch of Virgin America’s inaugural flight. Two years later, she had moved in-house at the carrier and was overseeing its Boston launch.

"Patricia is one of the best PR professionals I have ever worked with," says Abby Lunardini, VP of brand marketing and communications for Virgin. "She has demonstrated creativity, media relations savvy, and an attention to detail that is unmatched and in an environment that moves so quickly with business needs changing all the time. Having both that passion and focus is rare."

Condon is not just an events whiz. She takes a creative approach to consumer PR with an eye for smart partnerships and entertainment tie-ins. She spearheaded a Virgin partnership with NatureBridge, an environmental youth education nonprofit, and the airline’s first film integration partnership with Disney DreamWorks’ Real Steel, which included a branded aircraft at LAX and appearance with Hugh Jackman, the film’s star.

While at Ogilvy PR, Condon led the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works’ Stormwater Pollution Prevention Campaign, securing inclusion in the Los Angeles Times’ Pulitzer Prize–winning multimedia series Altered Oceans. Other clients included Chronicle Books, Caltrans, and The California Wellness Foundation.

"She has an incredible work ethic and dedication and is an invaluable asset to our team and this company," adds Lunardini.

- A longtime animal lover, Condon developed Operation Chihuahua for Virgin America, flying the abandoned pint-size pooches from the West Coast to new homes in the East, which garnered international media coverage

- Condon contributes to a number of charities, including San Francisco Animal Care & Control

- She created a multifaceted 2014 launch into Dallas Love Field that included an in-flight concert and a charitable partnership with a local school’s music program, among others
