Vijay Chattha recognizes trends before they arrive. He jumped into the startup industry, founding San Francisco-headquartered VSC PR when he realized these upstarts were hungry for a different type of comms partner.

Chattha quickly turned VSC into a top boutique player in the tech industry, representing equity positions in a number of mobile companies that successfully exited for over a billion dollars, including AdMob (bought by Google for $750 million) and MoPub (bought by Twitter for $350 million). VSC is also active on the VC side, counting Sequoia Capital and the Social+Capital Partnership among its clients.

"While many other PR stars have focused their careers on one rocket ship IPO, Chattha is the ‘turtle of Silicon Valley,’ steadily amassing a dozen major hits that have experienced over $8 billion in client exits and transactions over the past decade," says Enzo Njoo, brand synergist at VSC.

Pairing communications advisement with investment, Chattha hopes to drive the development of a new kind of PR practitioner, one with a real stake in the companies they advise and develop. His entrepreneurial spirit, willingness to take an equity stake, and ability to get clients the exposure they need at critical stages in their development is noteworthy.

"This two-pronged model of PR and venture funding enables Chattha to partake in the growth and success of his portfolio companies and demonstrate his passion and inclination to fully commit in the development of each venture," explains Njoo.

Chattha continues to build out new specialties alongside the ever-evolving technology sector, including Wareness.io, a marketing studio for hardware startups and the hot wearables segment. Creative storytelling drives the strategy and design studio, but it also offers access to a $6 million seed investment fund for select clients. The fund appreciated its value more than tenfold in less than a year with blockbuster launches such as Coin and Navdy.

Synergy is a theme in Chattha’s personal life, too. As a musician himself, he cofounded and chairs Project Ahimsa, a global nonprofit that immerses at-risk kids and urban youth in music education and provides support groups. So far it has impacted more than 10,000 children across 14 countries and distributed more than 100 grants in financial and human capital support.
