On Monday, Bloomberg reported that Pearson was exploring a sale of the Financial Times after receiving interest from potential buyers, according to what it called "people familiar with the matter".
The value of the sale could reach as much as £1bn, according to Bloomberg, which said possible bidders had been sounded out.
PRWeek contacted Pearson but received no reply at the time of publication.
Update - Later on Thursday morning, Pearson posted the following statement on its website: "Pearson notes recent press speculation and confirms that it is in advanced discussions regarding the potential disposal of FT Group although there is no certainty that the discussions will lead to a transaction. A further announcement will be made if and when appropriate."
