Imre brings on Bentz to lead revamped consumer practice

The hire and new division come soon after PowerBar appointed Imre as AOR.

NEW YORK: Imre has hired John Bentz, former consumer marketing practice lead at Waggener Edstrom Communications, to lead the firm’s newly transformed consumer practice.

Prior to Bentz joining the agency three weeks ago, the practice was called home and building. That area will now be folded into the new consumer division, said Dave Imre, partner and CEO of the eponymous firm.

Jeff Williams, who left this year for a client-side job, previously led the home and building practice, said Imre. Williams joined IKO Roofing in February as brand director for North America, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Based in New York, Bentz reports to Imre and leads 18 staffers within the consumer practice. He is focused on working with existing clients, such as John Deere, Stihl, and PowerBar, as well as expanding the consumer business.

PowerBar brought on Imre earlier this month as AOR for PR, social media, and creative services.

Imre said he sees growth opportunity for the agency in the consumer packaged goods space. Bentz is an important hire for the firm as it continues to become more integrated, he added.  

"We have a full creative department, digital, and social, and [Bentz] brings an understanding of all those areas," said Imre. "Our goal is to learn from [Bentz’s] past – he’s handled clients like Gillette, Microsoft, and Procter & Gamble."

The agency saw double-digit revenue growth during the first quarter of 2015, Imre said.

Most recently, Bentz served as principal of his own firm, Bentz Consulting, where he specialized in consumer research, insights and analytics, strategy and creative development, and social media.

Prior to that, he was SVP and consumer marketing practice leader at Waggener Edstrom for nearly six years. He also previously held SVP roles at DeVries Global and Porter Novelli.
