PORTLAND: Former Matter Communications VP Kent Hollenbeck has been named SVP of corporate communications in Edelman’s Portland, Oregon office.

Edelman’s Portland Twitter handle posted about Hollenbeck’s appointment on Monday.

Hollenbeck, who was not immediately available for comment, updated his LinkedIn and Twitter pages to include his new role at Edelman.

Before running Matter’s West Coast office, Hollenbeck started and was a principal at eponymous firm The Hollenbeck Group for about a year, at which point Matter bought it to expand to the West Coast in 2013.

"We wish [Hollenbeck] every success as he continues his PR career, and we’re thankful for his service," said Parry Headrick, VP of marketing and communications at Matter. "We are actively looking to find a top notch replacement, and expect to be sharing news on that front soon."

When Hollenbeck founded his firm in 2012, he took some work with him from smartphone manufacturer HTC. An HTC executive said at the time that the company "felt we could get a more personal level of service from a new, boutique agency, and called Hollenbeck "a proven entity."

HTC followed Hollenbeck to Matter along with several other clients, including IT company Redapt and research analytics company Dialsmith. Hollenbeck’s two staffers also went with him to Matter.

While he did not set out to be acquired, Hollenbeck previously told PRWeek that Matter was able to talk him into it because of the firm’s "commitment to the West Coast and understanding of the uniqueness of Portland."

Prior to founding his own agency, Hollenbeck was as an SVP at Waggener Edstrom for more than a decade, and he also worked in-house as a PR manager at Gateway.
