Sopexa appointed by Portuguese wine and port firm after becoming private company

Sopexa UK has been appointed to handle the PR for Portuguese port and wine company Sogevinus. The wine, food and lifestyle agency won the account for a three-year period after a competitive pitch.

The agency became a private business after previously being owned by the French government and promoting only French products.

Sopexa UK will focus in particular on four premium port brands – Kopke, Barros, Burmester and Cálem. The UK campaign will concentrate on fostering strong relationships with key trade partners and will include attendance at key wine industry events.

Anne Burchett, managing director at Sopexa UK, said: "It is particularly exciting to be working with a non-French brand as this emphasises this agency’s ability to work across regional borders."

Tânia Branco Oliveira, PR and comms director at Sogevinus, said: "This will be our first step into the UK market and it is vital that we communicate in the right way to the right people at the right time so that they understand exactly the USPs of our four port brands."
