RF Thunder wins Korean skincare brand The History of Whoo

The agency beat out local and international agencies in a pitch for the luxury purveyor of cosmetics.

SHANGHAI - RF Thunder, a sister company of Ruder Finn Asia, has signed a one-year retainer, plus projects, with Korean luxury brand The History of Whoo.

RF Thunder won the pitch against international and local agencies and will provide strategic counsel, media communication and event management. The agency cited its experience and expertise in cosmetics and its greater China network as factors leading to the win.

Formerly Thunder Communications, RF Thunder was established in 2001 and acquired by Ruder Finn in 2011. It has offices in Guangzhou and Hong Kong, with a Beijing office opening soon. The agency claims its business grew 200 percent in 2014, while its staff increased by 33 percent.

"Whoo adds to our growing client list establishing a strong national Lifestyle practice," Jefferson Hou, general manager of RF Thunder Shanghai, said in a press release. "The last 12 months have been an incredible growth period for RF Thunder with the addition of new clients from luxury, fashion, hotels, wine, automobile and cosmetics. Our expertise has also expanded to new offerings that include digital, celebrity marketing, CRM and the arts."

The brand, which launched in mainland China in 2006, is owned by LG Household & Healthcare Group. It combines eastern medicine ingredients with skincare technology in a collection products focusing on aging. Claming to provide "traditional Korean royal beauty secrets", The History of Whoo has more than 100 counters throughout China.
