Sainsbury's started the process to look for new agency support in January, with a three-way brief covering consumer (food, brand and health), corporate comms and corporate responsibility.
PRWeek understands that the brief has since changed and two agencies will be appointed. Golin has been handed the consumer work while a corporate affairs agency, which has not yet been announced, has also been selected.
Sainsbury's previous retained PR agency was Blue Rubicon. Blue Rubicon parted company with Sainsbury's last year and is now working for its rival Tesco.
At the same time as Sainsbury's kicked off a pitch, the supermarket hired a new corporate affairs director, Louise Evans from Dentsu, who is due to start in June.
The pitch process has been overseen by Cath Wilkins, head of consumer and corporate affairs at Sainsbury's.
Sainsbury's and Golin declined to comment.
