Lewis PR buys San Diego digital shop Piston

The deal will give Lewis a boost in digital services including SEO and media buying.

SAN DIEGO: Lewis PR has acquired Piston, a San Diego-based firm that specializes in digital marketing.

The deal will push Lewis’ global revenues past the $72 million mark, including $37 million in the US, according to a statement from the firm.

Piston’s specialities include SEO and SEM, display advertising, media planning and buying, analytics, and creative services. SkullCandy, cars.com, and Sunglass Hut are on its client list and it has 50 staffers in its San Diego office.

Piston will operate as a part of Lewis Pulse, the firm’s digital marketing unit, alongside UK-based Web-design firm Purestone. Piston achieved revenue of $8.4 million last year, according to Lewis.

Piston President John Hartman, who co-founded the firm with CEO Michael Chaney in 2008, will continue to run the agency, reporting to Stephen Corsi, Lewis Pulse SVP. Chaney will take a non-executive role.

Specific financial terms of the deal, which closed on February 23, were not disclosed.
