Splendid dropped from Unilever's Marmite account after 10 years

Splendid Communications has lost its PR and social account with Unilever brand Marmite, to W, after 10 years.

Samantha Cole, senior brand PR manager at Unilever, said: "After more than 10 years with Splendid Communications, which has helped deliver a number of award-winning campaigns, the Marmite PR and social account has moved to W. Unilever thanks the Splendid team for its great work on Marmite and continues to enjoy a great relationship with it on other brands."

Splendid will continue to work on Unilever's Pot Noodle and Walls ice cream brands.

In a statement Splendid said: "We are all incredibly proud of the decade that we've worked on Marmite, having accomplished consistently high levels of media attention, influencer engagement and in particular having built the brand's social media presence from its start into the large and highly engaged online community that it is today. We wish the new team all the very best."

PRWeek understands that a pitch took place for the Marmite account. Earlier this week a short film was released to relaunch the iconic brand, ahead of a new TV advert that will be aired next week. The film was created by W and Gas & Electric, with Adam & Eve/DDB developing the campaign.

In November Unilever handed its global French mustard brand Maille to Kaper, after a three-way pitch. Unilever continues to look for a global PR agency for its spreads business, which includes key brand Flora.
