The new media relations team will consist of two teams of spokespeople, one focusing on financial and business topics and the other on technology and innovation.

The new public affairs team will coordinate ABB’s business, regional and market public affairs activities.

The business media relations team will be led by Thomas Schmidt, who has been head of group external communications at ABB since 2000. The team includes Antonio Ligi, who has been a spokesman at ABB since 2010 and Sandra Wiesner, who joins the company in January from Lanxess AG, where she was spokesperson for financial and business media.

Schmidt will also take over as head of the new group public affairs team. This team will include Mats Holmberg, head of public affairs for ABB Sweden and the Northern Europe region, and Victoria Lietha, who joined ABB in corporate communications in 2012.

The company’s regional public affairs offices in Brussels, Washington DC, and Beijing will report to Schmidt.

Reiner Schoenrock has been appointed to head up the strategic product and innovation communication team, starting in January. Schoenrock was previously head of communications at Siemens Industry Software.

The team will include John Miller, who joined the company from The Associated Press in April 2014, and Warwick Wise, who was previously at Agence France Presse before joining ABB in 2013.

Christoph Sieder, group head of corporate communications, said: "As one of Europe’s largest listed companies and a global leader in power and automation technologies, we feel that these changes will help ABB provide a more well-rounded understanding of its activities.

"The new public affairs team will provide strong support for ABB on the corporate and business and market levels."
