LinkedIn's Krista Canfield connects with Gogobot

LinkedIn's Krista Canfield is moving to Gogobot in a VP role.

MENLO PARK, CA: LinkedIn mobile product PR lead Krista Canfield is departing the company to join travel-planning app Gogobot as communications VP.

Friday will be Canfield’s first day in the new role, she confirmed in a LinkedIn blog post. She will be responsible for overseeing media relations, corporate communications, and influencer programs at Gogobot, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Canfield reports directly to Gogobot founder and CEO Travis Katz. Initially, she will not have any direct reports. However, she noted that her role will eventually expand to include managing both internal and external communications relationships as the company grows.

Prior to hiring Canfield, Gogobot relied on external agency support from Consort Partners. The role was created to increase awareness about Gogobot and to take it to the next level, she explained.

Canfield is tasked with creating brand awareness via strategic PR plans and both traditional and social media relations. In addition, she is responsible for developing and implementing both the internal and external communications strategies and building out those teams.

She will also act as a corporate spokesperson and handle day-to-day media inquiries for Gogobot. In her new role, Canfield will work closely with colleagues across Gogobot's business and functional areas to create strategic community and social media communications plans that help Gogobot achieve its overall strategic objectives.

"This role is a rare opportunity for me to meld my personal love of travel with communications," said Canfield. "I'm looking forward to the adventure and to building the communications department at Gogobot from the ground up."

She added that she will be working to implement a communications strategy that will help Gogobot’s users uncover the "hard to find people, places, and experiences that make travel memorable."

"Gogobot helps you crowdsource your adventures, and crowdsourcing an adventure is precisely how I landed at LinkedIn seven years ago," Canfield wrote in the blog post. "As soon as I met Travis Katz and Gogobot’s small team of passionate travelers and techies, I knew I had found what LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner would probably call my ‘next play.’ The company, the role, the people - it was kismet."

Canfield has worked at LinkedIn since January 2008, when the network had 200 employees and about 18 million members. It has since grown to include more than 330 million members and more than 6,000 staffers.

The Syracuse University alum joined the company as senior manager of corporate communications for consumer PR. Early last year, she moved into the role of senior manager of corporate communications for corporate PR.

Canfield stepped into her most recent position as senior manager of corporate communications for mobile product PR last October. In that role, she ran point on LinkedIn's communication efforts for its seven mobile apps, LinkedIn for Phone and iPad, and platforms such as Connected, Job Search, Pulse, and SlideShare, according to her LinkedIn profile.

Before joining the social network for professionals, Canfield worked at the Horn Group.

Mike Manuel, former SVP at Porter Novelli subsidiary Voce Communications, joined LinkedIn earlier this month as senior marketing manager for content and social consumer.

This story was updated on December 11 to include quotes and additional information from Canfield.
