Campbell, now a consultant at Portland, also discussed his previous alcohol addiction in his entry to PRWeek's Power Book. Being "sober" is the best thing money cannot buy, he said.

Campbell added that he got into PR because Tony Blair "asked me to". As the driving force behind New Labour, he said the industry’s biggest weakness at the moment was its "defensiveness".

A fan of Russell Brand – he cited the comedian's bid to revolutionise politics as his favourite PR campaign in the last year – Campbell identified the churn in economics and politics as a huge opportunity for PR over the coming months.

Further insights by the former spin-doctor include the need for an app that provides live pro-zone analysis of football matches. His must-have item was his asthma inhaler and when asked what he got nostalgic about Campbell answered: "Driving while phoning."
