Scott was a founding member of the 72Point team in 2001 and rose to become MD of the group, which also launched OnePoll.

She resigned last month after her husband’s departure from the Sunday People to work on plans for the agency, where she will focus on commercial responsibilities and he on creative aspects.

James Scott’s background is in journalism – his previous role was deputy editor of the Sunday Mirror – and he has not previously worked in PR.

The agency will focus on getting consumer brand clients into tabloid and mid-market papers.

The agency will initially be based in East Dulwich in London.

Harriet Scott said: "GingerComms offers a perfect hybrid of PR and journalism, concentrating on front-of-the-book mass media and online news coverage for people and consumer brands."
