PepsiCo's Hoffman joins Herbalife as corporate affairs EVP

Hoffman will lead public policy, corporate communications, government affairs, community relations, and philanthropy when he starts on August 25.

LOS ANGELES: Weight-management and health products company Herbalife has hired Alan Hoffman for the new role of EVP of global corporate affairs.

He will lead public policy, corporate communications, government affairs, community relations, and philanthropy when he starts on August 25.

Hoffman will report to Herbalife chairman and CEO Michael Johnson.

He is currently SVP for global public policy at PepsiCo, where he oversees policy development, external relations, and government relations. Prior, he was Vice President Joe Biden’s deputy chief of staff and deputy assistant to President Barack Obama.

Barbara Henderson is planning to retire as Herbalife’s SVP of global corporate communications after telling the company she wanted to make the transition once she was 67 years old. Henderson will remain president of the Herbalife Family Foundation and help with the transition.

Henderson said Herbalife has no further comment at this time.

In recent months, Herbalife has faced verbal attacks from hedge-fund manager Bill Ackman, who has alleged the company is a pyramid scheme. Herbalife has said it is considering suing Ackman in response.

In May, China-based e-commerce giant Alibaba Group hired PepsiCo EVP of communications and former top Treasury Department aide Jim Wilkinson as SVP and head of international corporate affairs. Based in San Francisco, he is responsible for building the company’s international corporate affairs operations as it prepares for its IPO in the US. Wilkinson joined PepsiCo in 2012.

Golin named PepsiCo global diversity officer Pamela Culpepper as its chief people officer, a newly created HR, diversity, and recruitment role, last month.
