SAN FRANCISCO: Burson-Marsteller subsidiary North of Nine Communications has hired Tony Hynes as partner.
Hynes had been consulting for the firm for the past 18 months as an associate partner, but was officially brought onboard on July 1.
Reporting to North of Nine CEO Jennifer Graham Clary, Hynes is specifically focused on helping clients, including Ericsson and Silver Spring Networks, with business development and strategic input.
"I really just want to keep driving the growth North of Nine has enjoyed over the past three years, since it was founded [in 2011]," he said. "I have been brought on to keep that momentum going."
Since February 2013, Hynes had been consulting across North of Nine’s portfolio of business, helping the firm with product rollouts, thought leadership, and corporate reputation, according to his LinkedIn profile.
During the same period, he was also a consultant for other businesses under his own brand, Blue Umbrella.
Previously, Hynes served as GM and EVP at Weber Shandwick, West Coast GM of Bite Communications, director at Hitachi Data Systems, and director at Burson. He has also worked at Ogilvy Public Relations and Leading Edge Communications, according to his LinkedIn profile.
"Being at a few agencies, I got a chance to get a lay of the land, and one of the things that enticed me about North of Nine is that it is really a non-hierarchical organization," Hynes said. "The firm really puts an emphasis on providing a creative and solutions-based approach, which is good because it is a collaborative environment."
