The contest, which did not impact on local agency relationships, was for a new brief for an agency to provide the payments business with central guidance and creative ideas that can be adapted and executed locally.
When PRWeek broke the news of the pitch at the beginning of June one agency figure with insight into the process valued the work in the "high six figures" and said Visa was trying to "get consistency across the network in what is a particularly competitive market".
H+K will commence work in October and its team will be led by its co-head of financial and professional services, Matt Battersby.
The WPP-owned agency has also been retained as Visa Europe's UK and Brussels PR agency.
Visa Europe director of media and corporate affairs Diane Scott said: "We are transforming to be more focused on local market and customer needs and more flexible and agile in the way we meet those needs. The appointment of H+K to this new central, strategic agency role is a key part of the communications team supporting these changes."
H+K first started to work for Visa Europe in 2008 before adding to the brief in 2011 as the brand sought to be seen as more than just a payments firm.
