Andrea Fassacesia: 40 Under 40 2014

SVP, media and strategy, Marina Maher Communications
Age: 29

Andrea Fassacesia has always been a woman on a mission.

After graduating from college in 2007, she vowed to become an SVP at a PR firm before she was 30 – a goal she reached with two years to spare. Today, she is one of the most in-demand healthcare media strategists in the industry with a reputation for crafting must-cover stories.

Since joining Marina Maher Communications last year, Fassacesia has been a key player in teams that added more than $2.5 million in fees to the agency’s health and well-being practice.

Key achievements include masterminding a hugely successful media strategy to publicize $6 million in funding from the Merck for Mothers initiative to reduce the maternal mortality rate in the US. Her grassroots campaign, which highlighted how the money would be used in each area to design schemes to improve pregnancy and childbirth, fueled more than 27 million media impressions, including 21 print, broadcast, and online interviews, and 25 SMT interviews across 15 markets.

Fassacesia also kept a cool head when working on a complex and high-stakes media strategy around delays to the launch of Eisai’s new epilepsy drug Fycompa and the filing of a lawsuit, securing an exclusive in The Wall Street Journal that got all Eisai’s key messages across.

She has not only won praise for the quality of her work, but also from her fellow employees, who say she has the ability to bring out their best and foster a happy work environment "even when we are knee deep in a 50-tab media list."

"Since joining the firm just one year ago, Andrea has become fully integrated into the agency’s account teams," says Diana Littman Paige, EVP at Marina Maher’s health and well-being practice. "She has established herself as the agency’s go-to media strategist."

"Becoming an SVP at the age of 28 is a meaningful accomplishment on its own," explains Paige, "but the firm would not have promoted Andrea were it not for her proven ability to craft winning media stories, gain the trust of senior clients, and contribute to the agency’s growth."
