Twitter gives Stricker CCO title after he absorbs media oversight

Stricker is continuing to report to CEO Dick Costolo with responsibility for leading Twitter's consumer marketing, global media, and worldwide PR efforts.

SAN FRANCISCO: Twitter has upped Gabriel Stricker to the role of CCO roughly two weeks after he gained oversight of the microblogging service’s media department.  

Stricker is continuing to report to CEO Dick Costolo with responsibility for leading Twitter’s consumer marketing, global media, and worldwide PR efforts, according to the company’s website.

He absorbed management of the company’s media unit after COO Ali Rowghani and VP of media Chloe Sladden stepped down last month. The media team previously reported to Sladden, who reported to Rowghani. However, it is now overseen by Katie Stanton, previously VP of international market development, who stepped into the role as VP of global media on Monday. Stanton is reporting to Stricker in the new position.

The company will not hire anyone to replace Stricker as marketing and communications VP, according to a source familiar with the matter.

Twitter representatives deferred to the platform’s website for information on Stricker’s role, declining to provide additional comment.

Stricker joined Twitter in 2012. Last year, he managed communications for the company’s November IPO, which was handled by its in-house communications team without assistance from an outside firm.

Prior to Twitter, Stricker served as director of global communications and public affairs at Google. Previously, he worked in campaign politics.

Rowghani’s oversight of business development is being folded into the role of Twitter president of global revenue and partnerships Adam Bain.

Stricker and Bain are taking on additional responsibilities at Twitter as it faces increasing challenges from stakeholders as a publicly traded company.
