NEW YORK: New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has appointed Andrea Hagelgans as director of agency communications.

She will coordinate the mayor’s cabinet and city agencies to inform the media and New Yorkers about the administration’s initiatives, it said in a statement.

Previously, Hagelgans served as VP of strategic communications and media at Camino Public Relations, where she led Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s response to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the Cure’s 2012 decision to withdraw funding from the organization.

Hagelgans has also served as a senior press officer for corporate and health communications for Planned Parenthood. She has also been a member of the board of directors for New York Common Pantry and was deputy press secretary for the New York City Campaign Finance Board in 2005.
