Albion Drive called in by billion-dollar online payment provider Klarna

A Swedish online payment provider valued at more than $1bn has picked Albion Drive to deliver the company's PR strategy as it launches into the UK market.

The Shoreditch-based agency has secured a six-figure brief with Klarna following a competitive pitch process involving 10 agencies.

Albion Drive will be responsible for showcasing the benefits of Klarna’s services to online retailers through national, retail and tech press.

Klarna was founded in Stockholm in 2005 and is currently valued at around $1bn. Its online payment service is used by 25 million customers across Europe and holds 45,000 registered merchants including Spotify and Asos. Albion Drive will manage all aspects of its PR for its launch into the UK market.

Its flagship service, Klarna Checkout, aims to simplify buying by allowing consumers to make online purchases using only their email address and postcode.

Erik Engellau-Nilsson, Klarna’s chief consumer business officer, said: "When we launch into a new marketplace it’s important that we partner with people who understand how our service can really change the dynamics of e-commerce. In terms of the support they provide to entrepreneurs positioning new ideas in new markets, the Albion Drive team are unmatched."

Klarna will be launching its UK service next week.
