Lamps Plus selects Spong PR as AOR

Specialty lighting retailer Lamps Plus has selected Spong PR as AOR for the US following a competitive review.

LOS ANGELES: Specialty lighting retailer Lamps Plus has selected Spong PR as AOR for the US following a competitive review.

The agency, which began working on the account on May 1, was chosen out of five firms participating in the RFP process, said Ivette Serrano, PR manager at Lamps Plus.

"From the very beginning, we had an instant connection with Spong," she said. "They really understood what our needs were and how to accomplish our goals."

Serrano added that Spong’s experience in the home space was a major factor in the company’s decision. The firm works with companies such as Masterbrand, Sherwin Williams, and La-Z-Boy.

Lamps Plus has also worked with boutique PR agency Rich Pedine Public Relations for two and half years. It will keep the firm on retainer to supplement Spong’s efforts, explained Serrano.

Spong is tasked with working on messaging for Lamps Plus and helping the brand tell stories about its history and manufacturing. The firm will engage national and local media, as well as work on thought-leadership initiatives for the company.

Social media is handled in-house, but Spong may support some social tactics for specific campaigns, Serrano said.

"The goal for us is to establish more of that national presence," she added. "We want to become a resource for media with our experts in-house and all of our resources for trade, and we want to get the everyday consumer to know who we are and what we have to offer."

The contract on the account runs for one year. Budget information was not disclosed.

Lamps Plus, which was founded in 1976, has more than 40 stores in the US.

In April, Carmichael Lynch Spong rebranded after 23 years to Spong PR to create a stronger distinction from ad agency Carmichael Lynch, its sister firm within Interpublic Group.
