Coca-Cola digital comms director Brown to join Spredfast

Ashley Brown, group director of digital communications and social media at Coca-Cola, will leave the company for a job at Spredfast.

ATLANTA: Ashley Brown, group director of digital communications and social media at Coca-Cola, will leave the company on June 5 for a job at social media technology firm Spredfast.

Brown, who has worked at Coca-Cola since December 2010, will start at the Austin, Texas-based tech brand on June 16 as VP of social strategy.

"My new role at Spredfast is grounded in two of my core passions, technology and social media, and will allow me to work with some of the world’s top marketers to bring game-changing social media campaigns to life," said Brown, via e-mail.

Coca-Cola is actively searching for a replacement for Brown, a company representative said.

Further information on Brown’s new position was not disclosed.

During his time at Coca-Cola, Brown worked on a number of major corporate digital communications efforts for the company, including the 2012 launch of online magazine Coca-Cola Journey and Coke’s first corporate news blog, Coca-Cola Unbottled.

Speaking about his digital strategy at the PRWeek Conference last September (see below video), Brown said he was "on a mission to kill the corporate website."

Prior to Coca-Cola, Brown served as PR manager for more than three years at Microsoft. He also previously worked at The Corkery Group and Porter Novelli.

Brown was listed on PRWeek’s 40 Under 40 list in 2013.

Last month, former Social@Ogilvy EVP and New York group director Gemma Craven also joined Spredfast as executive director of strategic markets.
