Coke's Jonathan Mildenhall leaves to take on CMO role at Airbnb

Coca-Cola creative chief Jonathan Mildenhall is leaving the company amid a reshuffle to take on a position as CMO of Airbnb.

ATLANTA: Coca-Cola creative chief Jonathan Mildenhall is leaving the company amid a reshuffle to take on a position as CMO of Airbnb.

Mildenhall, who was responsible for leading the creative vision for Coke's portfolio of brands with the title of SVP of integrated marketing communication and design excellence, is replacing interim CMO Amy Curtis McIntyre and reporting to chief executive Brian Chesky at Airbnb.

Airbnb has said Curtis McIntyre will leave on June 1 "as planned" following a transition period, and will "head off to travel with her family and explore one of her true passions, writing."

Mildenhall is leaving Coca-Cola as it reshuffles its marketing structure by swapping the roles of two executives as it tries to reinvigorate flagging sales.

"You don't take the decision to leave The Coca-Cola Company lightly, a company that's renowned for transformational, creatively driven marketing on a global scale," Mildenhall said. "However, this is exactly what the team at Airbnb is doing. Airbnb is rapidly becoming a global superbrand, one that not only changes the way the world thinks, but also the way it behaves. I truly believe I will do the best work of my career at Airbnb."

Wendy Clark, who oversees the Open Happiness strategy and reports to CMO Joe Tripodi, will take over North American marketing starting June 1.

Kaite Bayne, the current head of North American marketing, will step into Clark’s position.
